The Woodlands was planned to include many opportunities for outdoor recreation. There are 121 forested parks, 13 pools, seven golf courses, 190 miles of hike and bike trails, three regionals YMCAs, The Woodlands Recreation and several private fitness centers located throughout the community. For those who work or live in The Woodlands Town Center, there are also several parks and recreational amenities that provide convenient and scenic places for a walk or run during a lunch break, kayaking, and family play.
- Town Green Park – this four-acre greenspace is the location for many community events during the year.
- Riva Row Park & Boat House – located on the west side of The Woodlands Waterway®, this 1.6-acre park features a pedestrian accessible greenspace along with kayak rentals. The Boat House is operated by The Woodlands Township.
- Lake Woodlands – the largest lake in The Woodlands at 200 acres, Lake Woodlands is a favorite of scullers and kayakers. It is accessed from Northshore Park, and is also the “starting point” of The Woodlands Waterway®.
- The Koi Garden – this Asian-inspired greenspace is situated on two tear-drop shaped islands in The Woodlands Waterway®, just opposite The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel. The garden is linked to the banks of The Waterway by pedestrian bridges. The 60,000-gallon koi pond is one of the largest outside of public arboreta or gardens.
